Ship of the Dead

Synopsis

Ten years ago, Magni Oavánson did something terrible. Now, having escaped the cult that raised him, he’s trying to make amends for his past crimes by returning a stolen god to its people.

Unfortunately, the god is under the protection of Alford Steiner, an elite war-mage. Worse still, Magni isn’t the only one after it: the infamous pirate Einar Noksaitaa thinks he can win back his lost honour by turning it into a weapon. Pressed into piracy and forced to assume the identity of a dead prince, Magni, and – more importantly – the god, become pieces in a game that he doesn’t know how to play.

While Magni struggles to find an ally he can trust, Noksaitaa is taking Alford back to a life he thought he’d escaped. An imperial war-mage is a military asset and the Empire’s brutal punishment for his disobedience will be visited on the people who harboured him. The only certain way save them is for Alford to sacrifice the freedom he fought for and return home, forget his husband, and die in battle… unless Magni can overcome enough of his indoctrination to save a man he once believed would destroy the world.
